The “R” with the curved line on each chord stands for “Roll.” When you see that just do a nice slow downward strum with your thumb.įingerpicking Solo - This arrangement is similar to the EZ Chord Solo. I created two tablatures for Amazing Grace: Easy Chord Melody Solo - This is a pretty simple arrangement and is a good one for beginners since the tune is familiar to everyone and it sounds good when it’s played slowly. I would consider doing a video with chords and lyrics like the others I do if there’s enough interest, so let me know if you’d like to see it. Note about the video: I recorded this as an audio MP3 in the days before video was common so the “video” is actually an audio recording.

I figure if I played everything perfectly I’d probably be rich and famous, but I don’t and I’m not so there ya go. I played the break four times on my recording, and if you happen to hear a sour note during the second break it’s because I flubbed it up but didn’t want to have to record it again. I actually recorded the song first then created the tablature afterwards, trying to emulate on tab what I was playing, but not being too exact about it since I probably didn’t play it exactly the same way each time. Neither is “exactly” what I played but the more advanced version is close to what I played. I’m posting two tablatures on my site - one basic and another more advanced. My version lands somewhere in between The Dillards and Andy Griffith as I played it clawhammer ukulele style at a medium speed. It’s become somewhat of a bluegrass standard and has been recorded by Alan Jackson, Nitty Gritty Dirt Band, and others.

The Dillards’ version is straight-up bluegrass, but in one episode Andy Griffith played it and sang one verse in a very slow “folksie” style, which I really liked since it really highlighted the beautiful lyrics. The most memorable performance was probably when Charlene Darling (Maggie Peterson) sang it. The best way to learn this melody is to take one line at a time and learn it by heart.“There is a Time” was written by Rodney Dillard and Mitch Jayne and performed by their group, The Dillards, also known as The Darling Family, back in the early 1960s on The Andy Griffith Show. The first three strings on a guitar are tuned the same way but not in the same pitch. Now you can play Scarborough Fair on your ukulele with ukulele tab!Īctually you can play this melody with the use of the above ukulele tab notation on a guitar also. The last ukulele tab and lyrics comes now: Here comes the next ukulele tab and lyrics: The notes on the fifth fret can be played with your ring finger as well. You don't even have to look at your fingers to find the right fret if you get used to this way of playing. It might be difficult at first but if you practice this fingerings it will actually be easier for you to find the right notes. You can of course use your first finger for all the notes but the best way to use your left hand fingers is to play the notes on the first fret with your first finger, the notes on the second fret with your long finger and the notes on your third fret with your ring finger. I haven't told you anything about which left hand finger to press down on the frets on your ukulele yet. I leave it up to you to figure this out out.ĥ1 means that you press down a left hand finger on the fifth fret on the first string. The ukulele tab notation doesn't tell you the length of the notes. I suggest that you play the notes with your right hand thumb but do as you like.
